ALMA D’ARAME
Co-founded in 2006 by Amândio Anastácio, Alma d’Arame is a visual and puppet theatre company which carries out its activity in the Alentejo Region, in the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal. Created with the aim of contributing to the promotion of the performing arts, particularly puppet theatre, in Portugal, the company’s name is inspired by the words António José da Silva dedicated to his “actors” in “Dedicatória à Mui Nobre Senhora Pecúnia Argentina” (“Dedication to The Very Noble Mrs. Pecúnia Argentina”) published in 1744: «everything is happening in a whirlwind, the doorman is flustered, the attendant stumbles…the lights look like stars, the Doric architecture, harmonious voices, and instruments become more apparent…and even the cork body’s wired soul seems to instil a sense of spirit and renewed inspiration…»
The association focuses on creation, programming, training and creative collaborations with local and national entities.
Its search for expression which lies somewhere between tradition and modernity has been the driving force behind Alma d’Arame’s artistic journey since its inception. This approach allows a connection to be established between that which seems irremediably separate, showing that creativity has no limit.
It is in the multiplicity of expression that new paths to enjoying the arts and new forms of artistic creation and debate are found.
